Contacted by The National to comment on the Mubarak trial now underway, Mallat noted that bringing a Pharaoh to court for the first time in the history of Egypt for 5,000 years is significant “for the region, for the rule of law, and for the whole world.” He added that while the hurdles to a fair trial are immense not least because many aspects of the oppressive regime remain in place – including the numerous military trials – and that the question is whether you are trying not only a man but a “system”.   (Full article)
