RN’s deep philosophical and pragmatic commitment to nonviolence

24/02/2011

RN’s deep philosophical and pragmatic commitment to nonviolence as the sole legitimate means to effect peaceful, progressive political change has been dramatically affirmed by recent events in the region. In order to preserve the nonviolent character and inherent promise of the transformative process underway, it is essential that a bold, innovative process of constitutional reform – one that is pluralistic, and respectful of rights, aspirations, and legal traditions – be carried out. RN’s work, informed by a sustained record of assistance to international calls for justice both in the courts and in the public debate, includes most recently scholarly legal support to the constitutional amendments council in Egypt and to the constitutional review committee in Iraq. RN is uniquely positioned to assist countries in the MENA region in this critical transitional step forward and intends to play an active role in this context.
