23/11/2011

RN advisory board member Mansoor Al-Jamri, publisher and co-founder of leading independent Bahraini daily Al Wasat, was honored yesterday with the 2011 Committee to Protect Journalists’ International Press Freedom Award during CPJ’s annual International Freedom Awards dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.

One of four distinguished journalists worldwide selected for the prestigious award given in recognition of courageous journalism, Al-Jamri is a noted publisher, writer, and human rights activist who has offered an unwavering voice for moderation and against sectarianism for over a decade. In addition to fellow journalists from Belarus, Mexico, and Pakistan who were honored with the Press Freedom award, veteran anchor Dan Rather received the CPJ’s Benjamin Button Memorial award for lifetime achievement during the gala event.

Al Wasat, co-founded by Al-Jamri, is Bahrain’s leading Arabic independent daily recognized in the region and internationally for its objective, non-aligned analysis and reporting.

RN again congratulates Dr. Al-Jamri for this much deserved recognition of his passionate and relentless work in support of human rights in his native country of Bahrain and across the Middle East.
